Build a Better App: “
With the ability now to publish any application on the Yahoo! homepage via the Yahoo! Application Platform (YAP), we’ve received numerous requests on what guidelines and best practices developers should follow to increase their chance of promotion and exposure to all Yahoo! users.
To help, we’ve published a set of Best Practices for Application development here on YDN. The guide is comprised of seven sections, each containing links to live Apps demonstrating these principles:

Geeky bits in WordPress 2.9: “
Thanks to Peter Westwoord’s WordPress Beta Tester plugin, this blog is on the 2.9 development track again, after having been off trunk for a couple of months. That plugin makes it really easy to switch any WordPress install to the development branch, either for the next ‘point’ release (eg. 2.8.6), or the next major version, in this case, 2.9.
Check out Technosailor’s great post on most of the new features for users. Below I’ve gathered a list of things especially relevant for readers of this blog …

Gravity Forms Widget + Extra’s: “
I’ve been blogging about Gravity Forms before, and I still think it’s one of the best plugins to have been released this year, if not all time. In recent releases they’ve been adding and adding and adding incredible new features, showing that you really do want to buy the plugin and get all their updates.
There’s a small issue though: it lacks a bit of functionality that people who were used to my WordPress contact form were really used too, and sometimes even relying on. My …

Practical Guide to 404 Error Pages: What WordPress is Missing: “
I make mistakes. You make mistakes. We all do. And some of these mistakes end up providing our readers with a 404 page. Chances are that page says ‘Error 404: file not found’. How does that help your visitor?

Ustream Viewer for Android: “
Ustream has reportedly launched a version of its Ustream Viewer for Android, on the Android Market, free of charge (although I don’t see it yet).
Viewer gives users the ability to access any Ustream footage on their mobile. The Android viewer app works on both 3G and Wi-Fi networks, unlike the iPhone viewer app, which only streams over Wi-Fi.

Ustream has already released its Broadcaster app, which allows you to stream video footage live from your phone to the web.
Ustream launched the iPhone …

Build Your Business By Promoting Competitors: “
Thanks to social media, you can’t really ignore your competitors like you used to. I mean, you can, but it’s a lot more obvious that that’s what you’re doing. You’re both on Twitter. You’re both on Facebook. You’re both using the same tools and communicating in the same space to a very similar group of people.
So how do you handle competitors in this new world? You embrace them and build your business by promoting your competitors, opening the doors to new alliances, potential …
